Last night we visited my parents for dinner. My uncle Bob was visiting from Toronto and it was very nice to see him. Also my uncle Donald (who's a local) and my sister and her family came over for dinner.
The boys were on there best behavior and super cute.
I can see it getting a little hectic at my parents when they have five grandchildren (next summer) running around their backyard.
It was nice to see the Elliott brothers getting to visit. They get along much better than some other Elliott brothers I know. ;-)
With the warm weather upon us the local Ice Cream parlor has reopened for the season and the classic cars are having their weekly gathering at the dinner next door, Thursday night is back on.
Since ET has been fully aware that the cars started showing up two weeks ago and the Ice Cream parlor was open back in March, when on the way back from daycare he let me know that there are "people inside". It was only a matter of time before we went.
Not only did the four of us go, but my sister and her family also came out to meet us.
I always love seeing the kids together. They were so cute eating all their ice cream... I mean the ice cream that didn't melt down their hands. Thanks to Donna for bringing some wipes they cleaned up pretty good.
The kids really got excited when the Impalla started hopping, you can hear them in the video.
Oh and if you're wondering I'm back on the Parfaits.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm really wanting to pay for that pro account over at Animoto. 30 seconds videos are not enough!
We went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks and it only cost $20. Admission is only $2 and everything at the concession stand is a buck. You can't beat that. It's a two theater cinema so check their (newly revamped) site to see what's on this week. By today's standards it has a small lobby but it's cozy and reminds me of old theaters that have long been closed and demolished to make way for multiplexes.
Another upside is if after 45 minutes your two year old gets antsy and wants to walking around the mall you haven't lost $50 or more like you would have at some big multiplex.
ET really enjoyed the film and didn't move from his seat (well he is twice the age of his brother). This past week he has been talking about the film in the way only a three year old can. Explaining how Alvin gets in trouble and how the Chipmunks talk really high pitch.
We were really pleased with Dollar Cinema and we'll be visiting it more in the future. Also free in door parking.
I'm sure this will work if you're married also. ;-) Now I have proof what a good husband I am. ;-)
Recently I stumbled upon Spacing Montreal a blog that "examines neighbourhoods, architecture, urban planning, transit and cycling". It's a great blog (why didn't I think of it) and it's local (Valley Wag is great but I'm never going to be partying at SXSW or San Fransisco with the technorati).
Reading it has got me sentimental for the days (and when I mean days I mean like a decade ago) when I went to school and worked in downtown Montreal. So when I had some time to walk around downtown I took it.
Of course it's the simple and mundane that you miss most. That's what surprised me. But I guess that's what makes up life.
The sound, wind, and noise of Metro cars pulling into a station. The sound of people pushing the turnstiles and cold florescent lighting. Resting my bag on the escalators since it's over packed and heavy. Homeless people that don't look that homeless asking for spare change.
Overhearing conversations on Saint-Catherine street and trying not to laugh. Jay walking. Sounds of traffic. Timing it perfectly so you can cross at the intersection on a green light.
Buying a 40+ year old sci-fi paperback. Brittle yellow pages, musty smell and the price written in pencil on the inside of the cover. Being able to talk English to the old man behind the counter.
But as with any past love it's rarely as good as it once was, mainly because you forget things.
It takes forever to walk anywhere. I'm not as quick or graceful making a dash across an intersection. All the stores I remember are gone. My bag gets heavier much faster.
