Apple is on fire with the new iPhone 3G. As if you didn't know.
According to Steve Jobs the App Store has sold $30 million dollars worth of apps in it's first month with 60 million downloads (most of which were free apps). While Jobs is mute on how many iPhones have been sold some say 3 million iPhones have been sold in the first 30 days of it's launch.
And there are still line ups for Apple's little phone.
Yesterday evening there was a fire at the Cupertino headquaters of Apple. The three alarm fire took more than 60 firefighters to extinguish and was under control by 12:30am Wednesday morning.
No one was injured (that's why I'm making light of the subject).I'm just wondering if this fire could not have been started by the shere awesomeness and epic power of the new secret product that Apple will be unveiling this fall that was hinted at during the latest Apple earnings call?
There was about 10 people in the line. One looked like a senior citizen and a kid of at most 10 years old and they both looked like they were with family.
Inside the store I could see they had an iPhone on display and the workers were quite the busy bees getting ready for the opening of the store.
Now I'm just waiting for the 2.0 firmware software. Unfortunately it looks like the iTunes store is coming back with an error message.
Unfortunately, still no compose page. I hope for the iPhone App Store launch on July 11th and a VOX app from Six Apart.
I just want to express my excitement that July 11th I could walk into a Rogers or Fido store and see (and hopefully touch) a real live iPhone.
Now god only knows how much the phone will cost per month. Steve says the phone itself will start at $199 world wide.
Last year I remember Amber Macarthur saying that there was no equivalent data plan in Canada for what AT&T was charging in the States and that it would be a couple a hundred dollars a month for such service here. Obviously this has been addressed but it still ain't going to be cheap.
Well I still have a year and a half left on my Rogers contact to see if it's financially feasible to get one. And I certainly will be paying the $10 to upgrade for my iPod Touch, It still has some life in it.
Of course I still got the following error message from Twitter. If might have been due to everyone trying to get in one last tweet before WWDC takes twitter down.
I'll be following engadet's live coverage and maybe swing by Twit Liv
I paid the now open and packed Micro Boutique a visit on the weekend. It's quite a small and underwhelming store but there must have been 30 people in there. It might have had something to do with celebrating their 25th anniversary.
Now here's the interesting bit. For their anniversary they are having a draw for an iPhone (that goodness it looks like 1.1.3) which ends April 20th. No word if it's the 4, 8 or 16GB version.
So here's the two possible scenarios:
- Apple is releasing the iPhone in Canada and Micro Boutique is giving one away for their anniversary.
- Micro Boutique is giving away a jailbroken iPhone.
The second scenario seems much more plausible but could get Micro Boutique in hot water with Apple. Last year Apple went after sellers in Asia of jailbeaked iPhones with the threat of $1000 fines. I wonder how Apple would feel about one of their official resellers giving away a jailbeaked iPhone for a contest prize? If it is a jailbroken iPhone, who ever wins it might be a little disappointed when they brick it with a future firmware update from iTunes.
Of course this wouldn't be the first time a jailbeaked Apple device has shown up in stores.
Currently VOX's text boxes do not work with the iPhone / Touch interface. So no comments or composing new posts for me.
This just might be the perfect opportunity to develop an application for VOX as well to TypePad. You know since you're doing all that work anyways... right?
I got a personalized form letter from Rogers the other day in the mail as I'm sure every other Rogers client across Canada did. Besides thanking me for my loyalty (uh that's a three year contact there buddy), I think they might have hinted at an iPhone release in 2008.
With all the uncertainty of late about the upcoming to never release of the iPhone here in Canada, I have done some leg work to get to the bottom of this.
Last week I dropped in at the local Rogers store and asked them when we might see a release of the iPhone. The response I got from the clerk seemed so bogus you know they have boxes of them in the back collecting dust.
His reason for no release in Canada yet is due to Linksys having the trademark on the name. What? Wasn't that cleared up months ago? I guess no one told him about the third iPhone.
When I attended Apple Demo Days I had to ask the Mac guy about a release of the iPhone. He told me that Fido was going to get it. Fido has a 3G network, so that might make sense if we're going to get the rumored 3G iPhone that Steve talked about in London.
Again thanks again MacSurfer for the traffic.
Those of you outside of Quebec are a lucky bunch... at least when it comes to contests. Not in regards to the great food, culture and super hot French women.
Due to the Every Law Has to Be Different Law in Quebec, companies just skip the province entirely rather than jump though the hoops of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux when it comes to promotions and contests.
So when news leaked that Molson (in business for 221 years, 298, days, 11 hours, 52minutes and 50seconds as of this post. Seconds?) would be giving away an iPhone in an upcoming Quebec contest/promo, needless to say I was excited. And all ready to start drinking I might add. It also leaked the carrier as Rogers. Forget the iTouch. If I don't win one I know what my upgrade phone will be in two years. This also this pointed to a release date here in Canada sometime in January 2008.
Of course this was not to be since days later Molson has removed the iPhone from the contest and has done some backpedaling. Do you think someone let something slip? I hope so.
I guess in the meantime I could check out Québec Concours for some home grown contests.
